Presentation delivered by Ruairi McCourt, Care & Support Programme Manager – Sussex Community Development Association, and Ollie Jeffs, Manager – The Pelham.

Ruairi and Ollie explained to the delegates the objectives of the Healthy Hastings and Rother partnership, and described the vision for the Health & Wellbeing Hubs in central Bexhill and Sidley:

  • Establish community hubs in six communities of Hastings and Bexhill
  • Secure and sustain the capacity and capabilities of community hubs to deliver health and wellbeing services
  • Enable individuals and communities to gain more control over their health and wellbeing.

The Health & Wellbeing Hubs are run in partnership by Sussex Community Development Association, a local charity founded 20 years ago, and The Pelham, a local centre rooted in the community of Sidley.

The aim is to build stronger, healthier & more inclusive communities in partnership with ESBT Rother DC & Hastings BC & RVA.

Ruairi explained where the Hubs are based, why the Hubs are needed, what they will do, what has been achieved to date, and what success looks like.

Ollie explained the role of The Pelham as a community hub – not ‘just a venue’.
